Having a website is almost a must nowadays for businesses. It allows people to learn about you and what you offer. You can share updates about the business and new products or services on your site. You can even offer items for sale on your site. But as important as it is to have a website, it doesn’t do much good if you don’t get traffic to your site to begin with. So what are some ways to get website traffic? There are many ways to do so and here are a few.
This seems pretty obvious. There are many ways to advertise. You can advertise on social media. You can post display ads. You can run pay-per-click/ paid search ad campaigns. And more. These are all great ways to attract visitors, build your brand, and get your site in front of people.
2. Social media
This is another great way to get your site in front of people. Use it to promote your site’s content. Twitter is good for sharing short, tempting links. Google+ promotion can get you to show up in Google search results. Pinterest and Instagram are good for commercial businesses for which photos/ images would help with promotion. Pinterest is also good for backlinking and driving traffic back to your website. And of course, Facebook is extremely popular and good for sharing links and images. Submit your site to StumbleUpon as well, as that can bring you traffic. LinkedIn is also a good social site to use for B2B.
To get traffic from search engine results, you need to watch your website’s SEO (search engine optimisation). Make sure your content is right for SEO. Use keywords, not just in your text, but also in tags, headlines/ titles, image alt text, meta descriptions, URLs, etc. Make sure you’re using internal links and post blogs or make updates to your site regularly. Be sure to use photos and video in your content, to attract your visitors and also help with SEO.
4. Guest blog
Blogs are a great way to get traffic, too. You can share content with it and attract visitors with it. But don’t forget to guest blog, as well. Doing a guest post on another, reputable site is a great way to not only build your brand but to gain traffic, as well. And hosting guest blogs on your site can do so as well, since they will more than likely link to your site in their article, which can bring you traffic.
If you have an email newsletter or such, be sure to include news of updates on your blog or site, and include links to get traffic.
Find influential people in your industry/ niche and interview them. They’ll be glad to promote the interview. Also, ensure you build connections and relationships with them. They’ll share your links and posts, helping to get you traffic. LinkedIn is a great place to look, as well as other social sites and forums.
Run analytics on your site. Looking at the data can help you see how much traffic you’re getting, where its coming from, who you’re attracting, and more. This can help you see what you’re doing that’s working and what’s not so you can adjust accordingly. Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools are good resources to use for this, though there are many other tools available as well.
