If you’re doing any sort of online marketing, chances are you have a blog. If not, what are you waiting for? It’s a great means of sharing content and reaching your audience to drive traffic to your site. But did you know that there are other ways your blog can make money for you, too? It sure can, but how?
First, you need to start a blog, obviously. Then you need to post useful, interesting content on your blog. After that, you need to find readers for your blog (figure out who your audience will be and share your posts) and engage with the readers once they come. Once you have your readers, then you can start making money from various income sources. Here are a few ideas for income sources.
This is one of the places many bloggers start in order to make money. There are two main types of ads:
*CPC/PPC ads, which are “cost per click” or “pay per click” and are usually banner ads placed in your content or sidebar and pay you when someone clicks on them
*CPM ads, which are “cost per 1,000 impressions” and pay you a fixed amount for a certain number of ad views.
Google AdSense is probably the most popular network used to place these ads, but there are many other similar programs that can be used.
If you don’t like the idea of working with advertising networks, you can always go the route of selling private ads. If your blog gets enough traffic, advertisers may actually come to you and ask you to place their ad on your site. Or you can contact advertisers yourself.
2. Affiliate links
You can try placing affiliate links in your content. Basically, this is where you place the link for an item being sold on another site, such as Amazon, and then if someone follows that link and purchases the item, you get a commission for that sale. Amazon does offer an affiliate program, if you think you might be interested.
3. Sell products
Offer digital products for sale on your blog if you don’t like the idea of advertising. You can sell things such as eBooks, online courses, images, videos, music, apps, plugins, templates, themes, or other types of digital products. Just make sure the products are relevant and useful to your readers and audience.
4. Sell memberships
If your business is one that can offer exclusive content on its website, use your blog and sell memberships that will grant your readers permission to view exclusive content. For example, if you offer a career website, you can offer membership access to your job board. Or a startup can sell membership to its forums. You can also offer access to specialised groups or exclusive software or services.
You can always try to sell your services in some way. You can offer coaching or consulting services, or freelance services such as web design, bookkeeping, social media management, etc. The key is to highlight your expertise in that area.
If you’re really savvy, you can do more than one of these and get money coming in from multiple income sources.
Those are just some ways you can make money with your blog. If you have any other suggestions, please put them in the comments box below!
