In marketing, especially online, the content you share is very important to attracting prospective customers. If you have a website or blog, the content you post on it will inform people about you and your products or services and should make them interested in using your business. When you put your content out there, however, you will need to promote it, because it does no good to have great content out there if no one knows about it! So what are some of the most effect means of promoting content?
Have an e-mail newsletter or e-mail list, and when you post new content, send a notification to your e-mail list, either in a newsletter or just an e-mail notification with the link. If you use a newsletter, you can include the whole article or just a blurb with a “read more” link. Automated e-mails can also be used, but tend to not receive as much engagement as a personalised e-mail. If it is a special report or long-form content, you can do an HTML e-mail, and maybe include a click through to a landing page.
2. Social media
Share your content on your social media channels. You will reach a number of people that way. Not only will you reach your followers, but if they find the content interesting, they will share it with their friends and followers also. If you can, tailor your content to the different social media channels so they don’t look generic. Have attractive headlines that will grab a person’s attention and use images to catch the eye. Ask questions to engage users. Post during the most optimum times, and don’t be afraid to most more than once.
3. Easy to share
Make it easy for readers to share your content. If they find your content through your website or blog, make sure they can easily share it if they want to. Provide buttons to let them Tweet it on Twitter, Pin it to Pinterest, share it on Facebook, or even to e-mail it.
4. Reach out
Find influencers who are sharing similar content from competitors and connect with them. Let them know you are sharing content about a topic that might give more insight. They will most likely be willing to share your posts. If you blog, you can also do similar with other bloggers in the industry, and also do guest blogging.
5. Name drop
When you share your posts on social media, mention in the blurb any expert or influential sources you used/referenced. If they happen to see your post, they will sometimes reshare it.
Don’t forget about video. Video content is quite popular right now, and you can reach a wider audience if you share video content. You can record your own videos or turn your blog post, guide, etc into a video. If you record your own videos, you can also take the video track from it and turn it into a podcast, or use the transcript as a blog post or PDF. The video can also be turned into a slideshow.
7. Content communities
There are some content communities online and blog aggregators, such as Alltop, Blog Engage, and Triberr, that will let you submit your content to their site so their audiences can see it. Competition can be a bit fierce on some of the more popular sites, so be sure your content is top-notch to have a chance of acceptance.
